i took the governer off of my 11hp b&s motor and i was wondering how long i can rev it full throttle before i blow it up. im always afraid im going to blow it up so i only let it at full throttle for 2 or 3 seconds. my friend has the same motor and he was letting it rev full throttle up to 10 seconds at a time so would that blow the motor?

you never want to over rev a stock engine to much. it wont be the a blown engine that'll be your problem but an exploded flywheel that will send shrapnel everywhere

thank you, half the time i only use it to get a little more wheel spin in the mud, but i was foolish and cut off the throttle assembly and the governor so now im gonna put a little bump sttop so it wont ove rev

To properly run no governer, you need to make serious ( and expensive mods ) to the motor- billet flywheel is one.

Ive seen pics of a motor that exploded- the flywheel tore part of the chassis out, took out the guys leg standing next to it, and flew about 100 yards and cut a hole in a steel barn and lodged into a steel beam.

Im trying to build my new project with a bone stock and governed 18.5HP opposed briggs and see what speed i can get from it - the motor was on my nearly stock 94 murray- and it was way too dangerous to open it up- this one will be built right to handle the speed ( and brakes to stop) - im aiming for upper 40's to 50's ( which i think its capable of doing- it did in the low 40's on the murray.

When in doubt and need more power- go with a bigger motor and swap pulleys.

yea im gonna put a little stop on the butter fly flap so it cant rev all the way up, i rather keep my legs haha, i have 2 dynamarks with 12hp in one and 10 hp in the other. the 10 hp i have a 4 on the motor and 6 on the trans it seems to work so far(did this pulley change after i decided to cut out the governor) and i think im gonna go with a 4 to a 5 on the 12hp. im thinking about putting a 5 or 6 inch lift on the 10 hp and quad tires in the back and regular big tires in the front, i figure the 4 to 6 will give it a little more wheel spin

I just look for tractors on craigslist , ask freinds and family, neighbors if they know of any tractors around - i ended up ( so far ) with 6 twins- 4 18HP opposed briggs- a 17HP opposed briggs and a 20HP onan- one of the briggs twins doesnt run and neither does the onan ( yet)- they werent that much either. Most ones i get are 11-16HP - never hurts to have spares.

Y haveta be paitent and keep searching- the time between the last two ( before christmas- one was $25 and one was free)  it was nearly a year - some people just dont want to fix em and sell em cheep.

All the ones i get are non runners- they dont take much to get em going actually.

yea i know im always on craigs list lokkin for them but i either find a realy good deal and its allready gone or its just one that would be cool and its a little too much, but i guess i just have to be patient. also its kinda hard to get my dad to take me and convince my mom we have room for another tractor. i will eventualy find a twin or 2 and stright pipe them with a snorkel and have some real fun :)

I think most people posting tractors last nite are on crack!  $400 for a tractor that needs a battery, starter solenoid and deck blades....wont get that from me!

Sometimes i find it hard to convince the wife to let me get some more- i nearly fell over when she mentioned the last one ( two) i got- she always sed if its under $100 i can usually go get it- i look for ones under $50 actually.

Most the 'new ones' are dragged home for parts- when i drag my 3 down from my folks house - ill have around 30 of em- my parents only let me have 10 ( well 10 that they saw anyway).

Also check the weekly flyer - i bot a few cheepies there.

wow 30 lucky lol i only have 3, but i think ima get a couple this summer when i actualy have some money. and yea most of the people are on crack here, the one i was lookin at was over 40 years old and was all rusty and they wanted like 450 for it. all the posts are one desent tractors but they are all above 200 and im not spending that much just to rim it apart and only use half the parts off of it. i need one more tractor by may, me and my dad are doing a tractor demo derby this year so then i will have 2 for muddin and 2 for the demo derby

Another source for used tractors would be your local lawnmower shop. They proudly post the sign "Any items left over 30 days wil be sold for repair charges" or something similar. You can get a good deal that way, OR, you can talk to the owner and see if you can work some of the cost off by doing 'drudge work' around the shop. Who knows, you might even work it into a regular job! Keep Hunting guys!

ive got ballin wire hooked to mine and hook up to the deck engage disengage lever if i need it ,it doesnt do much on a stock setup, but suprisingly mines held up alot longer on bypassed govenor then i thought

Just have the ER's number in case when the flywheel explodes.  Or morgue.

I say if you cant make power with a stock motor- get a bigger motor.

I had  my murray in the 40mph range  - and it wasnt even wide open throttle or high gear  - just couldnt control the thing - with the wheelhorse im building- ill find out how fast itll really go. And it still has the governer.
