Ok  I`ve been reading looking at pic`s and video`s of Lifted mowers for a

few weeks now.  I have a few riders in the back yard (yea I`m a redneck).

I have a  85 jeep cherokee woods truck , and I was thinking of taking the rears

and transfer case and making a 4 link set up and still use a mower  engine.

Another idea I had was to use 2 front rears and make it 4 wheel steering

hydro .

I also had the idea of using an atv frame with the mower frame ontop of that .

These are the idea`s that I have been thinking ,... has anyone tried these

set-ups ?   I would like some feed back as what to do and not to do.

thanks  Joe4x4

i think it would be better to use a live axle and a right angle gearbox off of a rear engine riding mower thats what my friend did and what im going to do. i think the tractor frame onto a quad frame would be kinda stupid, but the truck axles and transfercase would be cool but too much work and idk if a mower motor could have enought torque to move it

ride it until you brake it all the way!

ive toyed with many different ideas but as i see them in my mind i find problems with most of them. just a simple subframe with an 820 trans and simple rack and pinion steering seems to be the easyest and most reliable set up ive found. just remember the more parts you have is the more parts that can break

I read online some guy used a lawntractor engine to power a 4x4 go kart  and used two toyota narrowed axles- hand built a hummer type body for it an everything- looked sharp.

Itd be alot of work- but possible-  for the best power using a horizontal twin directly  hooked to the transfer case would be ideal - itd be better to make a whole new heavy duty subframe to mount the axles, transfer case, motor on then assemble the body over it.

The other thing is you might need to change gear ratios in those axles for the engine to move those large tires as well.

Ok  guys

1) Wizzard   "820 trans and simple rack and pinion steering "

2) Kel   "the basic set up"

3) Charles "simple is always better"

4) Dangeroustoy56 "toyota narrowed axles"

After looking at more idea`s at web pages , getting deeper into 4x4 design .

I think I`ll keep the first build simple.

Then I`ll build one with Jeep rear or toyota rears.

hear is a link that gave me the ides to shorten the axles.

http://www.pirate4x4.com/tech/billavista/Hybrid_Axle/HybridAxle.htm

I`m gonna go to my local steel shop , square stock or round stock ?

I have been thinking again . making the lift look like a tube buggy

under the mower.

example of frame for under the mower ,..   smaller scale :)

I dont think the RWS'  had that much of a turning radius. Might work on mud drags, might not be so good on the trail. not too many cheap junkers laying around. I am not saying that it wont work, just that the $/performance ratio might be a little off. next question:  why build a small jeep with a smaller motor. Just build a tuber
