i just picked up a 5 speed murry it ran grat for a week. but one day i went to ride it but it wound't shif the pully spins fine. i tryed every thing to get it free i don't wont to take it apart cus i know they can be a pain to get back to get ther. is there any way i can do it with out the pain. and y did it lock up. | |

Go ahead and take the body apart, and check inside. It could be a gear tooth thats sheared off and lodged, or a bent axle. Lack of lube can cause it to lock up, or its been over-driven, the heat causes this. | |

that happened on my 85 craftsman when i first modded it ( av pic <<) used a 3" on the trans and a 6" on the 14HP motor - locked it right up taking off one day, ( before i knew about doing that) i hadnt added any oil/grease and a few teeth broke off both the pinion and main gear - ruined that trans. | |

I have a mower that does 35 mph and its painted like the general lee and it has the flag the rear license plate the Dixie horn and all. Ill upload pic on the galley on here under General Lee. I grease the front axel and spindles on it every other ride and grease the trans weekly. | |

yep ive learnd that leason the hard way to. now we just drill a hole in the case and insert a greese zerk. then pump in some light duty gearbox greese | |
